Due to its relatively small size, The Picturedrome is the ideal place to enjoy live musical entertainment due to the close proximity to the artists. With a venue capacity of around 650, you can see why music-lovers flock here.
The Picturedrome is full of history and it shows. It has a built in stage, a sizeable dance floor and a state-of-the-art sound system. The stage is well lit with spot lights creating a perfect atmosphere.
Dating from 1913, this historic venue has hosted some of the biggest names in music and live entertainment.
In 2014 The Picturedrome came second place in NME’s ‘Britain’s Best Small Venue” competition.
With 7 acres of vineyard and unrivalled panoramic views of the Holme Valley, Holmfirth Vineyard is a perfect destination for a unique day out. Make the most of your visit and join them on one of their twice daily tours, where they will inform the novice and expert alike on the history of the vineyard, what they grow and how they manage it.
They will introduce you to their carefully selected modern varieties of both red and white grapes, all of which have been planted by hand. These have all been carefully selected due to them having been specially developed to thrive in cooler, more temperate climates. As a result of their development, the vines are disease resistant and ripen mid to late October.
The grapes are processed on site in Holmfirth Vineyard’s new purpose built winery which you will be shown around during the tour. Here you will learn about the wine making process and get to taste three wines from their range. They also have a number of unique packages available should you wish to follow your tour with lunch or afternoon tea in their restaurant.
One of the hidden gems of Holmfirth is the indoor market, home to the General Market on Thursdays, the Food & Craft market on Saturdays and to a monthly Farmer’s Market. It is located opposite the library on Huddersfield Road with a pay and display car park adjacent and another car park behind the library itself.
To find out more about the Market Days, their opening times and what’s on in the area visit Kirklees Council website or call 01484 223730.
